With 15 minutes remaining, it looked as if Young were going to hold on for a gritty 1-0 win.
But the return of Henwood Park co-coach Matt Menser sparked a equaliser through Ashley Woehler with a little over 10 minutes remaining.
Both teams pushed hard, but it was Henwood Park who finished with a flurry. After a couple of epic saves from Young goal keeper Matthew McKnight, the Hawks had an opportunity to tap the ball into the back of the net from a couple of metres out, only to send it sailing over the crossbar.
It turned out to be the last kick of the game, with the final whistle sounding just seconds after.
It was a grand finish to an entertaining match, where both keepers, McKnight and Henwood Park's Nathan Trinder, kept their teams in the game with a number of spectacular saves.
Young's goal came late in the first half courtesy of a Jarod Schiller header from a corner, giving the Lions a 1-0 advantage.
Young coach Duncan Cameron admitted he was happy to take one point home.
"Yeah. It would have been great to get a win, especially our first half was great," Cameron said.
"Henwood Park, they pumped us in the second half, they were on top of us I thought and we couldn't get out. But it still went both ways, both teams had chances but to get a point after the last kick of the game, yeah I'll take it."
Henwood Park coach Michael Babic was also happy to take a point that will help them hang on to third spot.
"It's an important point, you take it all," Babic said.
"At this stage of the year, it keeps us in front of them, it keeps us in front of Lake Albert as well so it keeps us in third spot, which is what you need at this point of the season, and at this point of the season you take every point you can get.
"To take a point off another team that is challenging for the top five, it's very important."

Henwood Park were forced to do it without Menser for most of the game. He reaggravated his groin injury early in the first half and went off, and only returned for the final 10 minutes due to the circumstances.
Aside from Trinder, Mat Cain worked hard throughout for the Hawks. McKnight was brilliant for Young, while Rhys Lacey and Patrick Hislop were dangerous throughout.
Cameron summed up the game well.
"It was an exciting, entertaining game. Both ends," he said.
"Both teams had heaps of chances, both teams' keepers probably kept them in it pretty much. It was a good game."
