The Bulldogs (5-7) could have sat a win behind the Demons (8-5), Wagga Tigers (7-5) and Coolamon (7-6), but worringly their intensity went missing, conceding eight-goals-to-one in the first half of the 34-point loss.

To make matters worse Truman Carroll's injury-affected season is now over after he had surgery on a broken finger sustained against the Demons.

Turvey Park have a tough run coming up, beginning with a must-win trip to Leeton before they take on Mangoplah-Cookardinia United-Eastlakes and Wagga Tigers.

"I definitely didn't see it coming. I was disappointed that it was pure effort in that first quarter really," Mazzocchi said.

"The boys didn't have that intensity in attack and willingness to defend hard.

"I was really disappointed. I thought if they really cared enough they wouldn't need a lot of motivating and would want to win that one, but at least show effort.

"Gullie were really good, and whether us at their best beats them I don't know, but it would be good to have a crack and see where we can go.

"Maybe we need some more solid bodies. We'll look for a few more bigger bodies I think.

"The forward line when it comes in it goes out reasonably quick, so we have to look at that too and get the right mix.

The Bulldogs have been guilty of producing a shocker every so often this season, and Mazzocchi wants a response against the rejuvenated Crows.

"We won pretty easily in the first round but they're a totally different team now, they're really competitive and playing some really good footy," Mazocchi said.

"But regardless of where we sit on the ladder, it all comes back now to a bit of personal pride. The boys want to go out there for the club and for their own standards.
