Maybe they should also produce a resume for us voters to get to know them before voting. Whilst I acknowledge that the problem of crime is not a local government matter, it is not much fun to be told we live in one of the highest crime areas in Australia and maybe some council muscle could be used.

I must react to the letter by Ed Wellham ("Australia obligated to 'do our bit' on climate change", July 22). I merely stated that Australia's CO2 emissions are 1.3 per cent of the world's total. This is a fact.

You inferred that I said Australia is not doing our bit in protecting the future generations. I did not state that at all. We all know that Australia is already doing that, such as by reducing coal-fired power plants, by promoting solar and wind power, by electric vehicles etc. Considering your statement, by my logic, the efforts of your Wagga relatives who died in WW2 and the efforts of others from Wagga who made the supreme sacrifice is misplaced.

I now quote from one of my letters - (Anzac Day and more) "On Anzac Day we remember with gratitude and respect all who gave their life as the ultimate sacrifice to rescue and liberate us".

I remember with gratitude that the allied troops who rescued and liberated us in concentration camps in Java (Indonesia).

In our case it was a minority of Gurkhas who rescued and liberated us. So therefore the efforts of your Wagga relatives, and of others from Wagga who made the supreme sacrifice, are absolutely not misplaced

I advise you to carefully think about to whom you send a 'white feather' in the post.

Our community of Tumbarumba has struggled valiantly to right the wrong that was inflicted on us in May 2016.

We have since that time followed every government guideline to argue our case in all the forums available to us including the local branch of the Liberal Party.

Finally the merit of our case was recognised by the Boundaries Commission which recommended in favour of the proposal to re-form the former Tumbarumba Shire on its previous boundaries.

The Minister for Local Government, Shelley Hancock, withheld the report for five months and then simultaneously released the BC report, announced that the demerge would not proceed, and that there would be a review of the Boundaries Commission.

This arbitrary decision of the Minister has crushed the hope that our community would receive a fair hearing and that the government would honour its commitment to its own independent commission.

I have been a Liberal Party member for over 50 years, 45 of those in NSW and since 1984 president of our Tumbarumba branch. I have been president of the Albury, Burrinjuck and Wagga state electorate conferences over the years, as Tumbarumba rotated through the redistribution roundabout. I now find that I cannot continue to support a government that has treated our community with such disdain, and consequently it is with great sadness that I have resigned my membership of the Liberal Party.
