On Saturday, the Jets beat defending premiers and top-three team North Wagga for the second time this season, a week after beating top-four side The Rock-Yerong Creek.
And that was a week after they buried CSU by 110 points who until that moment had been vying with them for fifth.
Some rival coaches rate the Jets the form team but Avis is keeping a tight rein on the buzz that says they're a competition heavyweight.
"I don't want to get carried away," Avis said.
"I think we're playing some good footy at the moment and some of the things that we've been working on have fallen into place. But you've really got to earn it to be that sort of team.
"Yes, we've had a good run but I don't think we've earnt it yet."

The Jets started the season with three losses in their first four games. Since then, they've dropped only two of their last nine games, to the top two teams, Marrar and East Wagga-Kooringal - who they play on Saturday week.
They take a four-match winning streak into this weekend's derby at Temora.
"We're definitely not getting the attitude that 'we belong there and we deserve this'," Avis said.
"We've still got to work hard. We've got our goal of making finals and we want to make sure we're doing all the right things to maybe not just make finals but - daring to dream - maybe play two weeks of finals.
"Once you make finals, anything's possible.
"Internally we're thinking we're doing some good things. But we've got to prove over a long period of time that we're a force to be reckoned with. I don't think we'll fly under the radar but we've got to prove it for longer than a couple of months."
