A whirlwind three-year journey has resulted in Morphett being touted as one of the hottest prospects in this year's AFLW Draft.

The 17-year-old only gave Australian rules a try for some fun with friends three years ago but hard work and a lot of commitment since then has Morphett on the verge of becoming an AFLW footballer.

"I'm very excited," Morphett said about the draft.

"I've been fortunate enough to get a couple of interviews with a couple of Victorian clubs and that was a massive learning experience, I guess I could say. I definitely learnt a lot from those interviews.

"I had an interview with Giants as well and I can't wait to see what (Tuesday) night brings and how it unfolds."

Under the rules of the AFLW Draft, a player must nominate the state they wish to be drafted.

Despite plenty of interest from Victorian clubs, Morphett chose to nominate her home state of NSW, meaning it only leaves the option of one club, Greater Western Sydney (GWS), picking her up in the draft.

Morphett has trained with the Giants before and held discussions with the club, but it has not resulted in any assurances.

"I'd like to say fairly confident but I'm not really sure at this stage," Morphett said of her chances.

"I'll go in and hope for the best and hopefully make an AFLW list by (Tuesday) night."

The year 12 Wagga High School student has made a big impression in the ruck, where her strength, tap work and contested marking ability holds her in good stead.

Morphett, who stands at 188cm tall, would love nothing more than to end up on an AFLW list.

"That would mean the world to me," she said,

"It's been a massive dream of mine since I started three years ago playing school footy."

Morphett started out playing school footy for Wagga High School, then joined East Wagga-Kooringal in the youth girls competition.

She has since gone on to play with Murray Bushrangers, Giants Academy, Belconnen and was captain of the Allies at the under 18 national championships this year.

Morphett will watch the draft unfold with her two biggest supporters, parents Paul and Rebecca, along with other family and friends.

"Having Mum and Dad by my side pushing me to work hard and to try to be the better version of myself," she said.

"Dad's super coach, telling me everything, all the little tips and tricks and everything so I've learnt pretty much everything off him, and obviously previous coaches have all had a such an individual impact on my football and I'm very grateful for everyone who has part of my footy journey."
