CHARLES Sturt University (CSU) will recognise outgoing federal member for Riverina Kay Hull by naming the new veterinary hospital in her honour. The Kay Hull Veterinary Teaching Hospital will be officially opened on Tuesday, April 20 at the university's south campus.Costing $3.3 million, the hospital offers both first opinion services for animal owners as well as medical referral for vets in Wagga and the surrounding district.CSU decided to honour Mrs Hull after her "hard work and support" in bringing the veterinary science course to Wagga and representation in Canberra.University vice-chancellor and president Professor Ian Goulter said Mrs Hull had been vital in CSU's development."The retiring Kay Hull has been a dedicated and proud advocate for CSU, including the development of our veterinary science program for almost 10 years," he said."Mrs Hull has been one of our strong voices in Canberra and we could not have brought the veterinary science program to inland Australia without her hard work and support."Both the first opinion and surgical practice will be operated by vet Dr David Gollard after he relocated his Wagga Veterinary Hospital service to the Urana Street site. The hospital will expose students, in their third year and above, experience in diagnosis and treatment of small animals under supervision of CSU vets and those from Dr Gollard's practice. At this stage the hospital will only cater for smaller animals but CSU hopes to extend those services in the future. The official unveiling will be carried out by Dr Kevin Doyle, the national veterinarian for the Australian Veterinary Association.
