It has been back to life in a hub for Cunningham and his Swans teammates over the last three weeks, but you would not know it looking at Sydney's form.
A 10-point loss to Port Adelaide was followed by a 92-point thumping of West Coast, and then a 19-point win over Western Bulldogs, positioning the Swans in sixth with many expects now talking up the Swans' chances.
While cautious not to look too far ahead, Cunningham believes Sydney's hub base in Melbourne will not have a detrimental effect on their premiership hopes.
"No, we've got big belief in our system and that we can match it with anyone, anywhere, at any time so we're able to adapt and be pretty flexible," Cunningham said.
"We've shown that the last couple of weeks, coming down here on three hours notice, and shown some resilience with performance being front of mind so we won't buy into that sort of chat.
"We think we're good enough to be matching it with the best teams and we're getting an opportunity to do that again this week."
With the COVID-19 situation in Sydney not getting any better, Cunningham is prepared for the possibility that the Swans may be forced to play the season out from Melbourne.
"You try not to think about it too much. If you look into it, it looks that way but you can never be sure with what's going on, especially after everything we went through last year and the last couple of weeks," he said.
"We're just trying to focus on trying to get better each week and have performance front of mind.
"I think we've got a really good balance between footy and life outside of footy in the hub. I think if you get that balance wrong, it can hurt your performance but I think the club's been great with that so far."

Cunningham said the hub experience in Melbourne so far has been good.
"It's not too bad. We're pretty lucky to be in the position we are where we can still play footy and get some fans to watch and we've still got some freedom down here in Melbourne," he said.
"A couple of weeks in now, we're just adapting and being pretty flexible with whatever's thrown at us and rolling with it a little bit. We'll continue to have performance at front of mind."
As for the Swans form over the past couple of weeks, Cunningham believes it has done the group's confidence wonders.
"It's reminded us we're a good team," he said.
"I think we've always had that belief that we're a good team and when we play our brand of footy, we're able to stand up against anyone.
"It was good to be able to regroup after the bye. Obviously the Hawthorn game wasn't a good one for us so we were able to reflect and had a look where we can get better and our last few weeks have been a lot better.
"Once again, we get another chance this week against the Giants in Ballarat, I think at this stage. We've never done that before so it will be something a little different but as I said, you've got to be able to adapt these days and front up each week so that will be the focus."
