Well, there's certainly things you should be avoiding, such as throwing boiling water on your windscreen according to the experts.

Nearing 20 years experience in the business, Wagga's Windscreen Doctor Neil MacLean certainly has seen it all.

And he knows all too well what you shouldn't do when defrosting your windscreen on those frosty winter mornings, particularly if damage is already present.

"Don't throw hot water on the windscreen," Mr MacLean warns.

"If there is a mark already on a windscreen and you throw warm or hot water over it, yes it will sometimes make it go [crack] straight away.

"Because you are [causing] heat exchange, you are going from cold to hot and if there is something there [like a mark], it doesnt like it and bang, away it [the windscreen] goes."

'Lukewarm water' is what Mr MacLean advises as the best option to remove frost quickly.
