Who is eligible for Pfizer?

Since ATAGI reviewed the official health advice, Pfizer is now preferred and available for all eligible patients under 60.

"Eligible patients" include anyone aged 40-59, as well as quarantine and border workers, health care workers, aged care and disability care residents and staff, defence, police, fire, emergency services and meat processing workers.

Anyone aged over 16 with an underlying medical condition, a significant disability or an outwards travel exemption is eligible, as are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Who is eligible for AstraZeneca?

Everybody over 16 is eligible for the AstraZeneca vaccine. The vaccine is, however, preferred for over 60s. Anyone under 60 who has already received their first dose of the vaccine without experiencing serious health effects is recommended for a second jab.

Updated advice now also allows anyone under 60 who consults with a GP regarding the risk of blood clots to volunteer for an AstraZeneca jab, and they can book in at any Wagga clinic, with the exception of the Wagga Base Hospital hub.

The new advice is mainly being picked up by under 40s who are not eligible for any other vaccine, with reports from Wagga GPs indicating uptake is increasing among the age group.
