The expanded mandate will give NSW Health contact tracers real-time data from more venues, including supermarkets, retail shops, gyms and offices.
Businesses that fail to follow the orders can face fines or temporary closure orders.
Serena Hardwick from the Wagga Business Chamber urged residents to make things "easy".
"The processes have been put in place to keep everyone safe, the businesses are required to enforce those," she said.
"Make it easy for them and also acknowledge that it is an additional resource, it costs a business to make sure it happens.
"The feedback is that most people have been really great, so that's a sign."
Hospitality businesses will now need to extend the use of the Service NSW COVID-Safe check-in to all customers including takeaway orders.
Wagga MP Joe McGirr said "checking in" is a vital tool in helping contact tracers track down potential COVID-19 exposure sites as quickly as possible.
"My office has been registered for a QR code, and I encourage all businesses to do the same as soon as possible," he said.
"As recent events have demonstrated, COVID-19 remains a huge concern for our community, and we are all keen to avoid any further lockdowns."
Minister for Digital and Customer Service Victor Dominello said there is no excuse to not check-in everywhere you can.

"In the same way customers routinely check into cafes, restaurants and bars, we need them to adopt the same approach when visiting a supermarket, retail store and workplace," he said.
"Inspectors have been asked to monitor the situation alongside the NSW Police."
There are currently 5.2 million people who use the ServiceNSW app.
The data captured by the is only used for the purposes of contact tracing by NSW Health. It is deleted after 28 days.
