Visitor economy and events coordinator Fiona Hamilton said Lost Lanes would see multiple locations activated between 4pm and 9pm on Saturday.
It will start from Wonderland Lane near the Sturt Mall on Baylis Street and extend to the ABC Riverina car park off Fitzmaurice Street.
A Wiradjuri-inspired artwork was installed yesterday to illuminate and float on the Wollundry Lagoon as part of the Lost Lanes festival.
Lagoon was created by artists Maurice Goldberg and Matthew Aberline from Goldberg Aberline Studio in collaboration with local Wiradjuri artist Owen Lyons.
It celebrates the importance of the water body, set within Australia's vast dry landscape.
The illuminated piece comprises 24 inflatable patterned reed-like forms floating up to 2.5 metres high in the Wollundry Lagoon. Mr Lyons' artwork is printed on the surface of these forms as they emerge from the water.
"I can't wait to see what it's going to look like," Mr Lyons said. "It's a really great opportunity to get more exposure, and I am really thankful for the opportunity."
Here's everything you need to know about Lost Lanes.
The Lost Lanes Festival zones
There will be seven zones for residents to check out throughout the main street, and the council encourages people to attend as many as possible.
1. Neon Underground - 100 Fitzmaurice Street
This will feature the Wagga raised and internationally recognised DJ Nina Las Vegas, a pop-up local cocktail bar, and SIGNAL projection + neon artworks.
2. Verandah Vibes - 53 Fitzmaurice Street
This zone will have Wagga musicians set the vibe, festival street food including fairy floss burritos, grilled cheese toasties, and on the main stage catch Eastbound Buzz and Creature Fear while admiring Lost Lanes projections.
3. Central Park - Wollundry Lagoon precinct and Victory Memorial Gardens
Have a skate on the ice rink, snap a pic of the Regal Peacock, enjoy the plasma play light artwork and listen to buskers in the bandstand.
4. Cellar Door - 10 Morrow Street
There will be a mix of alcohol vendors and tasty street foods, with Zana Aerial Dance Academy and a local DJ bringing the entertainment.
5. Laneway Runway - 209 Baylis Street
Get some tips with a fashion parade by Ted & Olive Boutique, check out the neon artworks, and have a dance to the set of a local DJ.
6. Cross Roads - Corner Tompson and Baylis streets
See the LED roving aliens, and enjoy the ZimPride Marimba Drums.
7. Wonderland Lane - 149-155 Baylis Street
Flashback to the school days with electric meadow hopscotch and LED hula hoops by Hooly Dooly Hooping and Dizzy Dilemma.
Additional supporting locations
Some Wagga businesses will host Lost Lanes inspired events at their venues at the weekend.
These include a drag show at The Curious Rabbit, brewery tours at Thirsty Crow Brewing Co, and a pop-up chill zone at the festival by Southern Cross Austereo.
COVID-Safe measures
Ms Hamilton said the event has been planned to keep everyone COVID-19 safe and urged any attendees to check in.
"Please bring your phone and scan the QR codes that will be at each of the locations during the night," she said.
"It is really important that you do. There will be security guards at each of the sites scanning numbers in and out."
Weather
Ms Hamilton said the team is closely monitoring the forecast, but at the moment, it seems most of the rain will fall by Friday.
"By Saturday 4pm, it actually looks like it's starting to clear," she said. "It will be wet underfoot, but the rain should have subsided by then."
Ice Rink
Ticket sales are going strong, Ms Hamilton said, so encouraged anyone keen to get on the ice to purchase their tickets.
The rink will remain up for two weeks during the school holidays but will be open from the start of Lost Lanes on Saturday.
Tickets for Skate Wagga sessions are $15 per adult, $10 per child (two to 14 years) and $39 for a family pass (two adults, two kids, or one adult, three kids) and can be booked by heading to visitwagga.com.
For those needing to build their confidence on the ice rink, gliding penguins will be available for hire as well.
