The sale of the pizza business located in Southcity was settled last week after a short period on the market.

The buyers are pipe welders and former fly in fly out workers Dean McKee and Jacob Kerlin, two friends who decided to try their hand at pizza in a bid to work closer to home.

"We've been working together for years doing fly in fly out and local stuff around here, mining mainly, and we just wanted a business we could get into so we didn't have to work away from home as much," Mr McKee said.

Mr Kerlin, who welcomed baby girl Elke five months ago with his partner Rachel Hayman, agreed being closer to home and the family was a big part of the decision.

Loyal customers of the delivery business can expect a few important changes under the new ownership, though the pizzas will be staying the same.

"Our main plan is to get customers their food quicker," Jacob said.

The pair have installed a new oven able to cook double the amount of pizzas and purchased a second delivery truck, so it looks like fast-tracked dinner is well and truly on the menu.

One item that will be getting a facelift is the pasta, with the duo working on new and improved recipes with a chef.

GSE Business Consultants' Rob Ilsey who brokered the deal said the business sold very quickly, something that didn't surprise him.

"Businesses with delivery networks performed quite well during COVID because people were ordering to their homes and now they are attracting buyers," he said.

"Unlike some businesses that are recovering, fast foods and restaurants that pivoted into delivery did very well."
