Arvind Ramidi bought the petrol station in Alfredtown next to The Shanty in 2013.
He and his business partner decided to take on the business after already owning one Temora.
"It had been shut down for six months when I bought it," he said. "So, we started it back up again."
Soon after opening, Mr Ramidi found himself bewildered after customers would continually ask: "where's the ice-cream?"
"We had no idea that it was famous for ice-cream," he said.
"After people kept asking me about it I had to call up the owner and ask 'what's all this about ice-cream'.
"He told about the history and how they had been selling it for 15 or 20 years."
So, Mr Ramidi decided to give the customers what they wanted and has been selling ice-creams by the scoop ever since.
He said it's amazing to meet people who remember the petrol station from when they were children on road trips with their parents.
"They are now coming here with their kids," Mr Ramidi said.
"A lot of regulars who have grandchildren will bring them here after school for a treat. It's amazing to be a part of this."
Christine Foley discovered the ice-cream six months ago, on one of her work trips in the region.
Since then, she's become a regular, making sure to stop every time she drives to Tumut for work.
"I stop in here and get my triple-strawberry ice-cream. That's my energy tucker," Ms Foley said.
"They are always good in here, and I always get the same order. You have a good thing then you got to stick to it."
It's not always easy for Mr Ramidi, who in the last few years has seen multiple crashes on the stretch of road.
IN OTHER NEWS:
In 2020, a Wagga couple, aged in their 70s, died after they pulled out of the service station and were hit by an oncoming semi-trailer heading east on the Sturt Highway.
"The speed of the road is a problem," Mr Ramidi said.
"We have seen at least two fatalities. One of my staff left the job after that. It was hard for them."
But, the community that has been built around his business - made up of regulars and strangers - makes it all worth it.
"It's beautiful, actually," Mr Ramidi said.
"This is the only service station I have seen that sells ice-cream like this, and I think that's why people come here.
"I love hearing everyone's stories about their first memories of this place."
