Darian Convery was enjoying life as a police officer in Wagga when some continual headaches prompted him to get some tests done.
He or his family never expected that a precautionary scan would show a mass of lesions in his brain.
His mother, Janelle Wilson, said in the six weeks since the 15 tumours were found on his brain and lung, Darian has begun a course of immunosuppressants medication.
"Years ago, they couldn't take one medication to cover both areas, but now with the advances of science, this particular medication targets both this lungs and brain," she said.
"That's good, but it comes at the cost of $12,500 a month. "His tumours have shrunk, but it's not a cure."

Eventually, they will become immune to it, Ms Wilson said. While the family has begun to deal with the shock of the diagnosis, it's still a tough time for all of them, especially Darian.
"To confront your mortality at 24 is so hard," Ms Wilson said.
But, there is one thing that continues to be a bright light in a difficult time - and that's the support of their loved ones and complete strangers.
To assist with the enormous cost of the medication, Ms Wilson started up a GoFundMe fundraiser, which has so far reached $185,000.
In one night, more than $90,000 was donated after Ms Wilson's workplace Doggy Daycare Farm trips shared the page online.
And now, friends of Darian have rallied to organise 'A Day for Daz'.
"It's been so overwhelming, and it's been difficult to comprehend the generosity," she said.
A Day for Daz will be held on September 24. The event will kick off with a cricket match between the Murrumbidgee and Riverina Police Districts, followed by dinner, auctions and raffles.
All money raised will go to Darian. If anyone is able to donate items for the auction, please contact the organisers through the page. For more information on the event, click here.
