The 47-all stalemate ended a run of six straight wins to start the Goannas' premiership defence, while for the Bushsows it was a strong response from a last-start loss to New Kids Aces.
MCUE led by five goals at three-quarter time and the loss of wing defence Zoe Schipp to a leg injury forced the Goannas to withstand a late flurry from one of the Farrer League's perennial pacesetters.
"We had to play the rest of the game with only six," Goannas coach Marie Hope said.
"It was still a very high level game and we probably wasted some opportunities, but that's a credit to CSU's pressure as well.
"The year before last we had practice matches against them and they always bring a high brand of netball, very quick moving and they have hard hustling defenders.
"They maintained that high level for the whole game and it was a very competitive match."
