Slayde Rumney was living in Ungarie and died following the single-vehicle crash near the northern Riverina town on Sunday.

His mother, Kristen Rumney, said growing up Slayde was a "cheeky little fella" with an infectious sense of humour.

"One of my fondest memories of him was his love of animals and the outdoors," she said.

"As a young boy, he loved David Attenborough and Bear Grylls.

"He had all David's DVDs and would take every opportunity to watch them."

Mrs Rumney said another passion of Slayde's was soccer.

"He played from the age of six to 16, and he was an absolute star player," she said.

"He was always the striker and the one who won the games for the team. He was exceptional. Slayde grew up in Cessnock, and playing soccer there brought him so many friendships."

Mrs Rumney said as an older teenager, he had struggled and wanted to start working to make his own way.

So, just after Christmas, Slayde decided to move out from his parents' place in Mudgee to "find his place in the world".

"It was hard to let him go, but he was ready," Mrs Rumney said.

"We were so very proud of him with his new job. He loved metalwork and specifically welding.

"He would send us photos of things he made at work because he was proud of his achievements.

"His boss rang us and told us Slayde was a beautiful kid who nothing was a hassle for and did everything he was asked to and more."

Mrs Rumney said no parent could ever imagine losing a child.

"It's not something any parent should see," she said.

"Words cannot express how much we will miss him. He was taken from his brothers and us far too soon."

Mrs Rumney said the family was incredibly grateful to the West Wyalong police, who had gone above and beyond to help them.

"The police and the assistance coroner have gone far and beyond anything that we could expect," she said.

"The officer in charge has rung us at every step."

Slayde will be remembered by his parents, Ben and Kristen, and his three brothers, Tulsa, Dustyn and Silas.

Mrs Rumney said they, and his extended family, would always cherish the memories they have of him.
