Wagga police are investigating the assault of an elderly man who remains in hospital following the attack.

An 86-year-old man heard a knock on the wall of his home on Mair Street, Turvey Park about 11.20pm on Sunday.
He opened the front door and was confronted by a man who punched him in the face and then fled on foot.
NSW Ambulance Paramedics were called and treated the man at the scene for a suspected fractured nose before he was taken to Wagga Base Hospital, where he is being monitored for a bleed on the brain.
Officers attached to Riverina Police District were notified and have commenced an investigation.

As investigations continue, police are appealing for information to help locate a man who may be able to assist with inquiries.
He is described as Caucasian in appearance, between 40 to 45 years old, with a slim build, medium length scruffy hair and a beard.
At the time, he was wearing a denim jacket, black pants and joggers.
