Nearly 100 students were given a scholarship in Wagga as part of the $1.8 million nationwide scholarship spend by the university.
First year agricultural science student Claudia Neiberding, 18, received the $40,000 Roberton Scholarship which will be provided to her incrementally over the next four years of her degree.
"It'll obviously help me financially, I won't have to stress over how much things cost at uni and I'll be able to focus on other commitments as well," the student said.
Ms Neiberding grew up in Wagga and has been afforded the opportunity to remain living at home while she completes her course work.
She had applied for the scholarship while still in high school at Mater Dei Catholic College and developed a love for agriculture while growing up on a race horse breeding farm.
"I've always had a passion for agriculture, I've grown up around it and I've always known it's what I want to do," Ms Neiberding said.
"I wasn't sure what I wanted to do but I knew it was in agriculture and I knew this course was hands-on with a lot of practical opportunities."
The scholarships are made possible through the financial donations of former students and their families.
