The Bushpigs lodged a clearance for Smith's return on Thursday and hope to bring him into the team for Saturday's trip to Nixon Park to face Temora.
CSU have lost their past two games and are looking to get back into the top five with a win over Temora.
CSU coach Travis Cohalan believes Smith's return will address a couple of key areas for the Bushpigs.
"Obviously we're quite light on in a, experience, and b, and most importantly, some height and size around the ground," Cohalan said.
"Hopefully Dom gives us another forward marking target and can also swap in the ruck."
Smith will arrive match-fit, having played six senior games for Beechworth this year.

His inclusion should coincide with the return of Andrew Dickins to the starting ruck position, after playing predominantly forward in the past fortnight, due to a knee injury.
"The reason Dicko has been playing forward more than the ruck is that he hurt his knee against the Jets," Cohalan explained.
"The advice he got from the physio was that he shouldn't run for a two-week period so he'll be back in the ruck on Saturday."
CSU will also welcome back key forward Angus Blackwood to face Temora.
