Group one placed last year, Jemsoms Pet was able to dictate terms to take out the Wagga Pacers Cup on Sunday.
Driven by daughter Abbey, Turnbull was impressed with the four-year-old's second up performance.
"He probably went a big slow for himself as he's a bit of a one-pacer who hits a bit of a flat spot but once he was able to hold them off I knew he would be too strong," Turnbull said.
"It's his second start so he should keep improving."
Jemsons Pet was third behind Zeuss Bromac in the Breeders Crown final in November.
Turnbull is looking to build back up to that level.
"We've got high hopes for him so hopefully he keeps going," he said.
"He's a nice horse and has all the things good horses have - he's strong and tough and the quicker they go the better he likes it."
Jemsons Pet ($2.80 fav) went on to down Young Rooster ($7.50) by three metres.

Heritage Lady then made it a feature double for the father and daughter combination in the Wagga Oaks however it was the polar opposite of her stablemate as she swooped late to win from last.
Restrained off the gate from a wide draw, Heritage Lady ($9) delivered a scintillating burst in a fast last quarter to round up her rivals.
Resuming from a break, the three-year-old filly made it back-to-back wins.
Turnbull hopes she can continue to head in the right direction.
"She has always had good ability but wants to overrace," he said.
"She has come back a lot better this time and has great speed but just has to relax a touch more and then we will have a bit of fun with her. We've got high hopes for her."
The Turnbulls quinellaed the race with Abettasecret ($4.80) finishing 5.2 metres away in second.
Will Rixon took the drive for his uncle.
Backing up his group one win, Rixon also combined with Glenn Schiller to win aboard Hes The Judge later on the bumper 10-race card.
Cameron Hart also returned home to win the Regional Championship Consolation for uncle Trevor White on Western Style.
