Six footballers hailing from the region were named in the NSW team at the conclusion of the NSW PSSA Boys Australian Football Championship in Byron Bay earlier this month.
Henschke Primary School's Jack Vonarx, Mater Dei Primary School's William Smith and Cooper Higgins, St Brendan's Ganmain's Zac McPherson and St Mary's Corowa's Levi Phibbs were all members of the Mackillop team that won selection.
They were joined by Coleambally Central School's Alex Pound, who played for Riverina, in the state merit team.
Unfortunately this year due to COVID-19, the national championships will not go ahead so the NSW team is purely a merit team.
Mackillop went through undefeated to win the carnival. They defeated Sydney North 9.5 (59) to 2.3 (15) in the final.
Riverina finished the carnival in seventh position after a win over Hunter on the final day.
