Ayman Shenouda, who runs the mass vaccination hub at Glenrock Country Practice, said they were set up to administer 140 shots a day but were only doing about 40.
Last week all Australians over the age of 50 became eligible for the AstraZeneca vaccine, but Dr Shenouda said Wagga's uptake has been much slower than in cities such as Sydney or Melbourne.
IN OTHER NEWS:
He has since reduced his intake of vaccines due to the low demand, and is encouraging more people to come forward.
"We haven't thrown out any yet, but by the end of August that's when the ones we currently have [expire]," Dr Shenouda said.
"We still have vaccinations to get us through, so it's just a matter of people being aware and getting vaccinated."
Jenny Fyfe, 65, is one Wagga resident who has already rolled up her sleeve to get the AstraZeneca shot.
She and her husband are due to get their second doses in the coming months.
Mrs Fyfe said it was a quick and relatively painless procedure, and she encourages others to do the same.
"I didn't have much pain. I did have one night where I felt a little cold, but I didn't have any headaches or anything like that," Mrs Fyfe said.
"I think it's the right thing to do. I definitely would encourage others to do the same, it's just like the flu vaccination we take every year so we don't get the flu."
Southcity Pharmacy's Luke van der Rijt said customers often came in to ask about the vaccine, and that they recommended people go for it.
"As healthcare workers we've been vaccinated, and we have confidence that's the best thing for us and we'd encourage as many people to come forward to be vaccinated who are eligible," Mr van der Rijt said.
"In most cases we recommend people do get the vaccine. You only have to look overseas at what can happen if people aren't vaccinated and the virus becomes active in the community."
Those who are under the age of 50 will soon be eligible for the Pfizer vaccine, with distribution to start in Sydney in the coming weeks.
However, Dr Shenouda said Wagga doctors are still waiting to hear when those Pfizer vaccines will be coming to Wagga.
Meanwhile, those over 50 can find vaccine hubs in Wagga, Young, Gundagai, Griffith and Deniliquin.
People can find up-to-date information about the rollout and what vaccine they are eligible for on covid-vaccine.healthdirect.gov.au/eligibility.
Residents can book their injections at the Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network website mphn.org.au/covid19-vaccine.
