Collins Park was the place to be yesterday, with more than a dozen families set up with picnic blankets, tablecloths and vases of fresh flowers.

Monique Bromley from Wagga with her children Sam, 3, and Maggie, 4, planned a brunch in the park with other relatives and Ellie the family dog.

The Flenley family was also at the park to play some Uno and to "have a bit of lunch", with grandmother Terrie Flenley thrilled to have the whole family together.

"We all wanted to have some family fun with the kids because that's what today is all about," she said.

She and her grandchildren Lewis, 4, Alby, 5 and Charlie, 3, and daughter Rachel, played a game of soccer while other family members manned the barbecues.

Meanwhile, the Wagga RSL threw a luncheon and high tea at the Albert Bistro where the Harmer family gathered for baby Aria Lai's first Mother's Day.

The Wagga Botanic Gardens also proved popular, with a few families heading down early to snag picnic table spots.

Old friends Pam Snedden and Beverley Beer met for an early lunch with other relatives, including Mrs Beer's grandson Angus.

"We've been having morning tea nearly every Sunday for 15 years. Goodness, I've got no idea," Mrs Snedden said.

"I've got six grandchildren and four children. They're all spread everywhere. So Gus is my grandson sort of for today.

"It's a lovely day on a lovely spot. It's just magic."
