With the event's return post-COVID-19 restrictions, Riverina Police District Acting Inspector Nigel Turney said they were preparing for possible troublemakers.
"The feedback I've received from officers on site is that the crowds were very, very well behaved and everybody was having a good time," he said.
"Obviously the big crowds were expected, it was capped at about 9000 people, but by all accounts it went very well."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Both police and highway patrol units were out in force over the day, monitoring behaviour at the Murrumbidgee Turf Club and on the city's roads.
"We had about 10 police officers at the event over various times throughout the day," Acting Inspector Turney said.
"There have also been patrols of the surrounding streets and CBD, making sure everyone is doing what they should be doing."
The high police presence is set to continue into the evening, too, according to Acting Inspector Turney.
"We will definitely be having RBT stations out and about over the night, and officers have been tasked to show high visibility at licensed premises," he said.
"We will obviously have to see how things pan out tonight, but licensed venues have been doing very well in Wagga with all of the COVID-19 restrictions and such going on, so we only hope patrons behave themselves and respect one another too."
