Starling played one NRL game with Newcastle after coming through their junior ranks.
Unwanted by the Knights after the 2018 season, Starling has made a new home with the Raiders.
There has already been plenty of banter with Connor Watson and Tex Hoy ahead of the clash at Equex Centre on Saturday and Starling is looking to ensure his side comes out on top where it really matters.
"I've got a couple of really good mates in that side so it should be an enjoyable one," Starling said.
"There's already some back and forth between them just mucking around but once we get out there it is all business."
The diminutive hooker is unsure of what his role will be with Josh Hodgson a chance to return from a calf complaint.
However after conceding more than 30 points in their last three games, the Raiders are hoping Wagga will be a happy hunting ground for them once more after taking a 30-12 win over Penrith in 2019.
"Hopefully this will be a good little get away for the boys, we get together for the trip out there and hopefully get a win to get our season back on track," Starling said.
"I'm really looking forward to it and I think the boys are excited for it too. We can get away together and get out to the community."

Canberra were forced to undergo a big reshuffle when halfback George Williams picked up a hamstring injury in the warm-up on Thursday.
The Raiders responded well to lead South Sydney 16-14 at half-time but couldn't keep it up.
The 34-20 loss was their fifth from their last six games.
They've let in at least 26 points in those losses and defence will be a big focus heading into the clash with a Knights outfit who sit a win below them on the ladder.
"We've leaked too many points in the last three weeks," Starling said.
"We've had teams on the ropes but have just let up a little bit and leaked some easy points and it's the main thing as if we're stopping teams from scoring tries we are going to win the game."
