The council last week received a $271,000 grant from the NSW government's 'Your High Street' program to "revive Fitzmaurice Street" through more lighting, artwork, parklets and bike racks.
Parklets are usually extensions of the footpath into parking areas for public seating, vegetation, bicycle racks and art displays, but the council plans to put them on the footpath rather than lose any parking spaces.
Knights Deli owner Deanna McNaughton said she welcomed the idea of improving Fitzmaurice Street but had concerns that putting parklets on the footpath could cause "congestion" in some areas.
"I'm thrilled there is some activation in this area as for many years, Fitzmaurice Street was kind of forgotten," she said.
"For the past three years there has been more unique and locally owned and managed businesses in this end of the street, and you have got to feature what makes you unique."

Garden Art Creations owner Mary Litrico said she liked the proposed garden beds in Fitzmaurice Street to match the "beautiful" ones in Baylis Street but the main issue was parking availability.
"There just isn't enough parking spaces and if customers can't park then they won't stop to come in," she said.
Ms Litrico said the parklets might also help meet the "desperate need" for bike racks on the street.
