The events involving up to 100 guests was a sharp contrast to his 100th birthday last year, which was celebrated during the pandemic lockdown at Wagga's Abbeyfield House.

Mr Weston said he did not know the secret to living more than 100 years but he suggested people "just keep on breathing".

Mr Weston's birthday was on Thursday last week, which was followed by a family dinner and then a party at Abbeyfield House on Saturday afternoon with many family members whom he had not seen since his 90th birthday.

"It was good to see everyone at the family dinner, that was the main event and that was the best part. I haven't seen some people for a while," he said.

Mr Weston said some of the presents he received included Scotch whisky and port as he "liked a little drink", as well as chocolates.

Mr Weston served in the Royal Australian Navy between 1942 and 1946 in the Pacific during World War II and was in Darwin during one the multiple Japanese air raids that followed the famous large-scale attack on February 19, 1942.

"I was in Darwin in 1942 when they bombed Darwin. I wasn't there for the original bombing but they bombed it a few times after. I was in a ship off Darwin and served mostly in the Pacific afterwards,," he said.
