In fact, the peace and quiet behind closed doors has led to the author's seventh book with publishing company HarperCollins - a project she's had brewing in the back of her mind "for a really long time".

The young adult novel Can't Say It Went To Plan follows the story of three strangers on an unforgettable week at Schoolies, according to Ms Tozer, capturing the whirlwind that comes with the teenage girls' first taste of freedom.

"After finishing Year 12, the three girls have these big expectations for a dream week away, but that's all upended as they deal with big life challenges, emotions and drama," she said.

"The book has it all really, there are some really funny parts, romance, the complicated side of friendships and heartbreak."

The concept of having plans turned upside down captured in the novel turned out to somewhat reflect Ms Tozer's own life.

"I started writing the book based in Sydney, but then decided to do a tree change and head back to my hometown here in Wagga," she said.

"All of a sudden, I went from having dedicated writing time and an established lifestyle, to having a toddler not yet at daycare, a global pandemic thrown in the mix, and I just had to roll with it."

Ms Tozer said it took a lot of adjusting and not getting too cozy with a situation in order to push through.

"You just do the best you can in the situation you find yourself in, and I actually learned a lot from the girls I was writing about in that respect too," she said.

"Sometimes things get all topsy turvy and you're forced to figure it out along the way."

The Wagga Library became a regular host to the writer for the early days of the novel before COVID-19 hit, with Ms Tozer saying she would have "glorious sessions writing thousands of words" there.

"This has probably been my most joyous writing experience of a young adult novel so far," she said.

"I was able to let myself go at a more natural pace and really savour the process."

The new novel won't be the last for Ms Tozer, but she has another responsibility to tend to first before the next publication.

"I am having another child, so I will have my hands tied for a while, but my brain never stops ticking over so I usually have ideas for my next novels as I'm writing the previous one," she said.

"I have another novel idea I'd love to sink my teeth into, but I have to let the idea marinate while I'm in the newborn bubble."

Can't Say It Went To Plan will hit shelves on May 5, and will be released in Australia, New Zealand, America and Canada.
