Wagga City extended their unbeaten run after thrashing Waratahs at Conolly Rugby Complex on Saturday.

Dylan McLachlan ran riot, scoring four tries as the premiers posted a 61-12 victory.

He's certainly found his feet in the code after making the switch from Group Nine club Brothers.

Coach Ben Schreiber was impressed with his display.

"Dyl is obviously dangerous with ball in hand but it's also his work off the ball getting the other guys into space," Schreiber said.

"It really opens things up for the blokes inside and outside him."

McLachlan has created a new role from outside centre this season but also showed he was just as damaging at fullback with his last two tries coming after the switch.

Schreiber was also thrilled with how the whole team rose to the occasion.

Even if there are still a few things he wants to iron out.

"The boys played well, discipline in the second half cost us a bit with a couple of yellow cards but the men really lifted and we were able to fill that void," Schreiber said.

"When you put 60 points on a side you can't be too disappointed with the effort and the likes of Peter (Little) and Dylan really stood up, dominated their outside backs and our forwards were again phenomenal.

"The scrum and line outs were quite dominant but it's the little one-percenters we need to work on."

Discipline was an issue for both teams with Waratahs winger Isimeli Koroi given a red card after his second yellow card offence for the match.

That was after hooker Tony Ritchie was yellow carded earlier in the game.

Waratahs were the only team that really troubled Wagga City in the shortened season last year.

While there are a lot more rivals this time around, Schreiber believes the 49-point victory shows they are in a great position to start the season.

"Given that was our second run of the year against last year's runners up I felt the men held themselves in quite good stead," he said.

For the second time in three weeks, Wagga City are now preparing to take on CSU while Waratahs will have to wait three weeks before getting a chance to hit back.

They've got consecutive byes in the first grade draw before heading to Murrayfield to tackle Albury on May 15.
