Council green-lit the proposed development of a 24-hour veterinary hospital on the abandoned lot at 60 Lake Albert Road on Monday after a short application process.

The development proposal was submitted by Wagga vet Dr Alexandra Keough who currently runs the Lake Road Veterinary Clinic and will transform the site between the railway and Botanic Gardens that has lay dormant since an approved development fell through in 2018.

The site was initially approved to house 276 self-contained storage units in 2016, but work started on the lot in 2018 was stalled and ultimately abandoned.

Development application documents show the veterinary clinic will provided extensive services including surgery, specialist services, referrals from other vets, dog and cat boarding, puppy pre-school and general health services like microchipping and desexing.

The three story mix-use commercial building will have industrial space available on the bottom floor, with the veterinary hospital taking up the top two floors.

Open hours are restricted to Mondays to Saturdays between the hours of 8.00 am and 6.00 pm, and 24-hour emergency services will be available on call.

The hospital will include six consultation rooms, 2 surgeries, a reception and waiting room, with off-road parking for 49 cars on the site.

The proposal document also cite a potential 'animal ambulance' that could be kept on site.
