After a tough opening round loss to Belconnen, the Wanderers hit back in emphatic fashion with a 5-1 belting of Tuggeranong United on the road.

Teenage talent Megan Castle and Christina Grauer-Kompos both scored doubles in the second half, while new recruit Kirrilee Cameron also hit the scoreboard in the win.

Wanderers coach Sam Gray was not surprised by the result.

"This weekend was a lot more like how we can play," Gray said.

"We went there full of confidence despite the fact we lost the week before and I think confidence in how we can play."

The condition of the Kambah field prompted Gray to reshuffle the Wanderers team in a bid to handle the long, thick grass.

"I think if you can do that and still come away with the result, it shows your team we're pretty adaptable," he said.

"They were willing to accept two or three positional changes and move forward with it and it certainly helped our game."

A couple of slight tactical changes at half-time also helped the Wanderers as they were quick to find the back of the net in the second half.

Gray also believes the addition of Cameron and Bronte Buik into the Wanderers midfield this year has had a positive impact on the team's younger players.

"They both came in and added so much experience to the midfield, its allowed the younger girls like Piper (Lockley-Hinschen), Megan (Castle), Hannah (Stevens), it's allowed people like that to grow into the game," he said.

"That's been a huge positive for us."
