The Wanderers were beaten 4-0 by ANU in their second round clash in Canberra, a week after they were shut out 2-0 at home by O'Connor.
Their cause wasn't helped when Alvaro Kelechi was sent off for a second yellow card midway through the first half.
We were 2-0 down after about 20 minutes and still well in the game, but after he got sent off it was always going to be tough for us," Leonard said.
"I was really happy with how we played in the first half, but the send off made it really tough to try and get back into the game.
"It (lack of goals) definitely is an issue because it has never been a problem for us in the past. We have to work on a few combinations out the back, but even though we've had goals scored against us our defence is getting better."
Leonard singled out young winger Samson Lucas for praise, while skipper Robert Fry was outstanding and limited the damage in goals.
