IT'S a winning feeling Coolamon have been waiting 19 months for, but a new-look Turvey Park also showed they will return as a finals contender this season after the Hoppers 12.12 (84) to 10.5 (65) round one win at Maher Oval on Saturday.

After trailing by 14 points at the major break, the Bulldogs booted the only three goals of the third quarter to take a one-point lead at the final change.
But Coolamon responded with the opening four goals of the last quarter to set up the win, with spearhead Joe Redfern booting six majors.
Featuring a number of new players this year, including a host of travelling Canberrans, Turvey Park lifted their pressure game in the third quarter to get back into the match.
But their run and chase dropped off markedly in the early stages of the last term, and the Hoppers' improved ball use made them pay.
Max Hillier was also superb for Coolamon and Josh Buchanan stood up in defence, while Jeremy Maslin was dangerous up forward and kicked two goals.
Although disappointed with the result, the Bulldogs would be encouraged by their first up display against a team tipped to finish in the top three this year.
Canberra recruit Stephen Camp was outstanding in their engine room and iced his day with two goals, former The Rock-Yerong Creek stalwart Tom Yates also kicked two and 18-year-old defenders Tate Isaac and Will O'Connor were also singled out for praise by new coach Michael Mazzocchi.
Coolamon co-coach Jake Barrett said their composure and ball use was significantly better down the stretch.
"Turvey are a quality team and played a good brand of footy, they should keep their heads up high," he said.
"They came out to play in the third quarter. We put it to the boys in the fourth quarter that we had to be more disciplined in our defence and be tighter, and that's what we did.
"Once we started realising they were folding back a bit we started using the short options through the middle and lowering our eyes, that helped a lot."

Mazzocchi was encouraged by his side's first-up display, but also disappointed they let the game slip by dropping their pressure standards early in the last quarter.
"We were right in the game but that last quarter, we went back to our old ways a bit," he said.
"Our pressure in the third quarter was excellent, winning the ball back and giving our forwards a good look at it.
"Then in the last quarter, for whatever reason, our enthusiasm and energy wilted a bit. That helped Coolamon use it a bit better because the pressure was off.
"That connection with all the new players is going to take a little bit of time to work out.
Turvey Park suffered a blow in the third quarter when Mitch Ward, who provided a great target up forward early, left the field with a hamstring injury.
