The Lachlan Valley Railway (LVR) company hopes it will be able to re-offer the journey once the motion gear error has been fixed.
"If you've got a 128 year old steam train and you're pulling it through the country, you can end up with big problems if it's not right," said LVR chairperson, Ross Jackson.
"We need to make sure it's right."
A date has not yet been set for the expected rescheduling of the journey, but Mr Jackson said it is assumed it will be "as soon as practically possible".
"We certainly want it to be in this season when the weather is cooler, that works the best for steam trains," Mr Jackson said.
