The Boiled Lollies kick off their Southern Inland title defence with a clash against CSU at Beres Ellwood Oval on Saturday.
Reddies are one of the four clubs who took part in last season's first grade competition.
Wagga City went through undefeated and coach Ben Schreiber is out to prove they can be just as successful in a larger competition.
"I don't want to detract from what the men achieved last year but we've been labelled by some as the winners of the COVID Cup," Schreiber said.
"It will be really good to go out there this year and prove to them why we were the premiership team last year and I think we will be the standard again this year."
Wagga City have been busy on the recruitment front with Brothers star playmaker Dylan McLachlan among their new faces.
McLachlan has played at five-eighth in Group Nine but Schreiber has a different role in mind for him in his return to rugby union.
Outside centre.
"The structure we will play will enable him to get the ball in some space so he'll have plenty of opportunity to play with ball in hand," Schreiber said.
"He's actually pretty keen for the challenge.
"Obviously he played first XV for Scots College when he was in high school so he's had some pretty good rugby coaching in his time before he played league after leaving school."

CSU started their season with a 47-17 loss to Albury last week.
Wagga City's third grade and women's side were in action against Leeton, but most of the club had to bide their time.
It's only added to the excitement to get back into the middle.
"The boys are all keen as we were all ready to start but we had the bye," Schreiber said.
"We're looking really good and selections have been quite difficult with the depth we've got at the moment.
"We've got a lot of young defense members playing for us, from the RAAF base mainly, which has been a really good acquisition for us."
Wagga City have also had an influx on Pacific Islander talent with Jone Kurusiga given his shot on the wing.
CSU are coming off a heavy loss last week but Schreiber remains wary.
"Reddies will always field teams no matter what they've got and the seems they've got a fair bit of depth there this year," he said.
"I'm hoping they can come out, put on a good display of rugby against us and really put us through our paces."
After sitting out last season, Griffith will also make their return to the field on Saturday when they host Waratahs in Yenda while Ag College heads to Albury.
