A MAN "running late for work" has been clocked travelling more than 60km/h faster than the speed limit near Griffith this week.

Officers from the Murrumbidgee Police District detected a Mazda 6 travelling at 174km/h along the Sturt Highway on Monday just after 7am where wildlife is known to frequent.
Griffith Highway Patrol units stated a "large number" of kangaroos were spotted in the area at Darlington Point where the 25-year-old man driving the car was breaching the 110km/h limit.
When the driver was stopped, he informed police he was "just running late for work".
He was issued with a penalty notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h and his licence was suspended on the spot for a period of six months.
