The 128-year-old 32-Class full length 3237 steam train will make a 12-hour trip from Sydney to Albury via Boree Creek in May.
The 'Boiler to Boree' tour will include 14 stops, including one in Cootamundra where the train will divert slightly, with its diesel capacity continuing on through to The Rock.
The journey has been in the works since 2016, but a series of unforeseen events forced its postponement to this year.
"Originally, we were going to do it with Tim Fischer, but then he got ill and COVID-19 came," said organiser Greg Stock.
"Now we're able to run again, it's going to be something we do out of respect for Tim's life."
In other news:
A team of 350 volunteer members of the Lachlan Valley Railway (LVR) non-profit have spent several years preparing the engine for its voyage next month.
It is expected to seat up to 150 people when it leaves Sydney on May 15 and will be one of the first expeditions the volunteer organisation has been able to host.
"Last year we struggled," said Ross Jackson, LVR chairperson.
"We had assets lying around that required maintenance but we had nowhere to run them. It was a struggle."
