At the school's first ever assembly, the students enjoyed taking part in a smoking ceremony with Wiradjuri man Pete Ingram.
Ms Mitchell said she was excited to see the finished product after visiting the site during construction last year.
"It really doesn't feel like that long ago we were in hard hats with construction underway, to see the students here, their happy and smiling faces, really dedicated staff lead by the principal (Tracy) Delaney, it's just a joy," she said.
Ms Mitchell said she was impressed to see the in-built flexible learning spaces attached to the classrooms, and it was good to see this kind of investment in a regional area.
"I think it's a really great asset for this community, particularly in a growing part of Wagga, its important we have that infrastructure there for local families," she said.
