The Lions outclassed Griffith by 35 points in round two after going down to ladder leaders CSU in the season opener, a big confidence boost before they host the Saints.

Co-coach Luke Walsh said they were rapt with their improvement in ball usage in round two, but said there's plenty more scope for growth with a large number the squad playing football for the first time.

"We're keeping it simple. Some of our players have had experience already but we're not bombarding them with too much information," Walsh said.

"We've introduced a pretty basic game plan in terms of what to do when we have the footy and when you don't'.

"It helps when you control the footy for longer but from the CSU to the Griffith game they became more comfortable and confident when they got the footy, rather than panicking.

"We went from one goal against CSU to five against Griffith, we worked on it and I think it showed in the second game."

Walsh believes the Saints, who were grand final bound last year before COVID forced the season to end prematurely, are shaping as the potential benchmark.

"It will be a big challenge and they look like they might be the team to beat, I know a few of the North Wagga girls and they're pretty handy," he said.

"I think playing the good teams will be good for the development of our girls. When you come up against the best you find out what it's really about, it gives you a standard to strive for, and that's what we're looking forward to this week."
