James Olds will get his first taste of rugby league in the region after being drafted into the side.

The Albury recruit, who is a member of the Welsh national side and was part of Wagga City's Southern Inland premiership last year, will start on the wing against Macquarie Wests Tigers at Camden on Sunday.

Young forward Jayke Hogan has also come into the side after Southcity recruit Connor McCauley injured his ankle at training last week.

Despite a couple of changes, coach Luke Berkrey is pleased with how the team lines up.

"We've had two very tough training sessions but they have been good sessions," Berkrey said.

"It felt like we've got a lot out of them and I'm pretty confident heading into our first game."

Berkrey was impressed with Hogan last season in a much-improved Cherrypickers outfit.

"I thought I would give a young fella a crack who I thought had a good year," he said.

"When we played them over the there he was their best player."

Hogan will come off the bench.

Berkrey has also been impressed with Olds after he was drafted into the squad before their first training run.

"He has a really good resume, I've seen a little bit of footage of him playing in SIRU last year and some rugby league before that," he said.

"He's played at a very high level a few times and has fitted in great at training.

"He's been really good."

Berkrey will remain in a non-playing role but still there are five Tigers players in the starting line up with Derek Hay to join Kyle McCarthy in the halves.

McCarthy isn't a regular five-eight for Southcity, however Berkrey is confident the combination will work.

"I really like the combination and most teams these day play left and right - they don't really have halves switching on both sides," he said.

"Derek and Doc's (McCarthy's) roles are pretty similar in this time with the style that we are going to play."In the return to the open-age format, Berkrey has been pleased with the response from players.

With a clash against Illawarra to come, starting well against the Tigers will be crucial.

"I don't really know too much about the area but being a rep game there is going to be a lot of good players there so we are going to have to play well if we are going to win," Berkrey said.

Group Nine players dominate the line up with Tom Sellars, who is originally from Cootamundra, Hayden Philp and Jake Goodwin the only Group 20 based players in the side.

Both Philp and Goodwin played in Group Nine last season.

The clash is the fourth on a big day of Riverina rugby league in Camden.

The women's representative team will also kick start their campaign while the Andrew Johns and Laurie Daley Cup sides are both hunting their first wins after three losses so far.
