The South Wagga president risked a six-match ban, which would have ruled him out for the rest of the season, had he not entered an early guilty plea after being found to have brought the game into disrepute.

The suspension arose after an investigation into phone conversations Robinson had with match committee members Eric Koetz and Owen Thompson following Wagga Cricket's decision to call off round 10 of the season due to predicted wet weather on Friday, January 29.

The Blues were set to face Lake Albert in a day-night clash at Robertson Oval the following day.

The call was made in direct contravention into a process that was determined before the start of the season.

After 65 millimetres of rain, sunny skies shone over Wagga when play was originally set to start.

Blues second grade player Alex Jones will miss this weekend's crucial clash with St Michaels after being charged over a social media post about the decision.

South Wagga secretary George Burley has thrown his support behind the two players, expressing the club's disappointment in the process which led to the suspensions.

"Joel Robinson and Alex Jones have the unconditional support from both the South Wagga Blues committee as well as the wider cricket club," Burley said in the statement.

"The decision made and the process taken by the Cricket Wagga board is disappointing given that both players lacked the opportunity to defend themselves prior, and we believe this should not overshadow their work and contribution to the association for many years."

New Wagga Cricket chairman Brenton Crawford defended the process.

"We're 100 per cent confident we followed the right process," Crawford said.

"We don't want to provide a running commentary on it, and have been pretty clear with South Wagga, and following our next board meeting we will release a statement to all the clubs."

Robinson will be back to face St Michaels at Robertson Oval on Saturday before their semi-final clash with Wagga City next week.

Brayden Ambler also returns after being part of Riverina's loss in the Country Championships final however Jake Scott will miss the clash due to junior representative duties.
