Pine Gully Road is set to be upgraded, but it's the intersection with Old Narrandera road that has councillors concerned for drivers' safety.
Mayor Greg Conkey said it was a very dangerous spot, especially as it is on a slight bend.
"There's more and more traffic coming from those northern suburbs," he said.
"The issue has been on our radar for quite some time."
Councillor Paul Funnell raised the problem at a previous meeting, asking if it would be possible for the council to erect traffic lights.
In this week's business papers, the council responded to Cr Funnel's query.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"As per advice from Essential Energy, the existing power line along Old Narrandera Road is high voltage and is not suitable for street lighting," the report said.
"Completing these works now would result in some assets being made redundant once the intersection is finally upgraded. Whilst a formal costing has not been done on this work, it is expected to be cost-prohibitive."
Cr Conkey acknowledged that while permanent traffic lights are not possible, he would be advocating for a temporary solution of a solar-panelled light.
"When there is a more permanent solution, we can use that unit somewhere else in that city."
On Tuesday morning, general manager Peter Thompson said it was a smart suggestion to install a solar street light, and council staff will investigate the possibility.
Pine Gully Road was nominated as a national 'Black Spot' and is set be upgraded to reduce the number of car accidents from the Old Narrandera Road intersection in the south to Estella Road in the north.
Council's project is currently in the design phase and is estimated to cost almost $7 million.
