Rural Fire Brigades from Gilmore, Tumut, and Adelong were called to the homestead at 11.50am on Wednesday, where they battled the blaze with the help of Fire and Rescue crews.
With their combined efforts they managed to control the blaze, but not before the roof of the house had collapsed and the rest of the building had been charred.

The flames were threatening to leap over to the neighbouring paddocks, but crews managed to prevent any further spreading.
One of the owners, a female farmer, was taken to hospital after escaping the blaze, but did not appear to suffer any major burns or injuries.
Riverina Highlands Rural Fire Service district officer Jon Gregory said it was a tragedy for the farming family.
"We were able to confine the fire to the actual structure and it didn't escape into the joining paddocks, but unfortunately there was one person taken to hospital for routine precautions," Mr Gregory said.
"Our thoughts are with the family. Unfortunately they've lost their house."
