On Saturday, one of the homes used as a backdrop for the film will officially be put on the market with a preview.

The three bedroom home at 145 Gurwood Street is one of two neighbouring houses which were featured in Backyard Ashes.

The movie, written by Wagga locals Peter Cox and Mark Grentell, was released in late 2013.

By the end of the year, it was named the highest grossing film for Wagga's Forum Six Cinema over a two-year period, beating films including Iron Man 3, Despicable Me 2 and Ted from the same era.

The movie has since been picked up by Netflix and is still available to stream on the platform.

Selling agent Amanda Tilyard of PRD Wagga said at the time the movie was filmed, its creation was a major community effort that was "really exciting" for the city.

"A lot of the Wagga community and businesses supported the movie ... all the extras were locals as well," she said.

"We're a bit delighted to be selected as the selling agents."

PRD's Harry Mangelsdorf said before the house was even put online, a Facebook post previewing the property got plenty of views.

"Within 24 hours we had about 15,000 people," he said.

A further 30,000 were clued into the upcoming sale when one of the film's writers posted about it online.

Ms Tilyard said she expected a lot of Wagga locals would want to have a look, with plenty of people who were in town that year connected to the film in some way.

Beyond the initial excitement, she said the features of the classic central home would likely make it popular with potential buyers.

"It's a standard Australian house with a few extras, it's been tightly held in the family for quite some time," she said.

"This three bedroom, central Wagga house, beautiful street, that's what's driving the market at the moment."

Ms Tilyard said off the back of the social media buzz, inquiries were already coming in.

"The phone's been busy!" she said.
