Hazell Tennant and her husband, both aged in their 80s, had their Lake Albert home ransacked on Thursday last week where their white Subaru Forester was stolen.
The next day, officers from Riverina Highway Patrol engaged in a pursuit through Wagga involving the same vehicle reported stolen from the Tennant's home.
Riverina Highway Patrol Acting Inspector Ben Smith said the pursuit began on Red Hill Road, lasting six minutes.
"The car was driven erratically in a manner dangerous to the public," he said.
"The speeds reached were well in excess of the 50km/h limit."
In other news:
"We have been collecting forensic materials from the vehicle and are awaiting results," he said.
The vehicle has since been returned to the Tennants, who Acting Inspector Smith said were "very pleased".
Charges are yet to be laid regarding the incident as investigations continue.
