The occupants of the home on Inglis Street in Lake Albert, who are in their early 80s, said they were "sitting out the back having a yarn" when the robbery occurred on Thursday night.
"That was at about 7pm, we heard some kind of noise but it was also storming so we just thought it was thunder," Resident Hazell Tennant said.
After getting in through the front screen door, Mrs Tennant said the offenders stole two jewellery boxes, her handbag with wallet inside, and their white Subaru Forester.
"They took a ring box with nine rings inside and two jewellery boxes which were full of assorted pieces, including a one of a kind necklace with nine sapphires and diamonds on it," she said.
"There was a lot of value in that, there were opals and other gems."
In other news:
"We were heading to bed and noticed all the jewellery was knocked off the table and they'd made a mess," Mrs Tennant said.
"We had the police come out around 11pm then to have a look. We're all a bit shaken up."
Police have been contacted for further information.
