Sergeant Steve Bloomfield has been working with the police force for more than three decades. During that time, Steve moved with his family to multiple remote communities.

Now, his daughter Hannah has joined him at the Riverina Highway Patrol.

"It makes me proud as a father to see she's followed in those footsteps," Steve said.

"The experience she has had moving around the state with us as a kid has paid off because she has a good handle on the challenges and culture that country policing brings up every day.

"It's been very interesting. When I think back to years ago when I taught her how to drive and now she's enforcing traffic laws."

Steve joked that sometimes when he has trouble with technology, he'll ask for her advice in a roundabout way.

"I'll say 'well, how would you do it' and then I say 'that's how I would do it too'," he laughed. "But, she is teaching me a lot. I am very proud of her."

Acting Sergeant Hannah Bloomfield said it's been fantastic working with her dad.

"It's really nice on a father-daughter level to be a lot closer to him as I was a number of hours away before," she said. "From a work perspective, there's a lot that he can teach me."

Hannah said there is plenty of banter and many officers she meets will regale her with tales of how they remember her as a baby.

"It's good fun," she said.

Highway Patrol Acting Inspector Ben Smith said it's rare to have a family duo, but it's exciting to have Hannah on the team.

"It's pretty special to have the both of them here," he said.

"It's been great combination. Steve is a very experienced highway patrol operative. Hannah is a very proactive Highway Patrol officer. There's a fair bit of banter ... it's a nice thing for the office."
