Phil Burgess, festival convener and member of the Rotary Club of Wollundry, said the current COVID-19 restrictions, limitations on travel and associated nationwide uncertainty meant there was no choice but to cancel the event.
"Given our firm commitment to our COVID-19 risk management plan, we see it as our responsibility to respect the safety of all intending participants and attendees, the volunteer members of our club and other supporters as well as general citizens of Wagga to do nothing to risk further spread of the virus," he said.
"We apologize to all our enthusiastic supporters who have enjoyed it so much over previous years.
"We have to contract the size of the event and then it makes it uncertain for vendors who have to decide its viable."
The Food and Wine Festival is an initiative of the Rotary Club of Wollundry, Wagga and has been held in the city annually for the last 15 years.
All proceeds are distributed to local charities.
"We thank everyone for their support and co-operation and planning has commenced for the event for 2022," Mr Burgess said.
"It is our clear intention to continue the event in the future - making it a bigger and better experience in coming years."
