Riverina Paceway is undergoing more remedial works in the hope the multi-million dollar facility will be able to handle wet weather better.
Issues when rain have been an issue since the opening of the track almost two years ago and Harness Racing NSW chief executive John Dumesny is confident everything is on track to return after the works started earlier this month..
"It is set to be completed by the end of the month however the end of the month is not pressing," Dumesny said.
"It will be done back to the specifications with different material and away we will go again."
Wagga has not raced since December 18 but with Carnival of Cups meetings at Leeton, Temora and Junee it is typically a slow period for the club.
Wagga had a meeting transferred to Albury last week to give time for the works to be completed.
More transfers remain an option, but Dumesny is confident the timeline for a return to racing is sound.
"The work is the priority," he said.
"The race meeting won't be lost and will be moved to another track if necessary."
There has been 250mm of the track surface has been removed and replaced with the new material.
It is not the first time major works have been required on the track however this time around new material is being brought in from Milbrae Quarries, who supply Leeton, Junee and Temora.
"This material is what has been accepted at Leeton, Junee and one other club down there so we simply swapped to that," Dumesny said.
"It is a different material all together, it works and the support was for that material.
"The easiest way out of this is just to put that material down."
Dumesny also revealed if the track surface doesn't improve they could step in to oversee the management on the surface.
Currently Wagga Harness Racing Club employ their staff, but the precedent was set when Newcastle had issues previously.
"It is not dissimilar to other tracks where they have experienced problems with the surface, most notably of those was Newcastle," Dumesny said.
"For a number of months they were losing at least one meeting a month and in the end Harness Racing NSW installed their own track curator and that is an possibility for Wagga."
