McMillan posted an unbeaten 72 against premiers Wagga City on Saturday, his first match in the top grade for the Bulldogs in five years.
The 20-year-old has spent the past few seasons with Lockhart but felt the time was right to give Wagga Cricket another crack.
The move has definitely started well.
"I only went out to Lockhart to play with a few mates but I thought it was time and now I'm ready to come back and try to make an impact at the top level of Wagga Cricket," McMillan said.
"I started with Lockhart but had a think about it over the Christmas break and thought I was ready to come back to Wagga."
Wagga RSL captain Sam Perry is pleased to have McMillan back at the club.
"The way he batted on Saturday really showed he probably should have stuck around at the club a bit longer," Perry said.
"Who knows where he could have gone but it is definitely good he is back and hopefully he can score a few more runs."
The 20-year-old was pleased with his return effort as well.
"It wasn't too bad. I went out there with a free mind and I've been training a lot, more than ever really, and hitting them well in the nets," McMillan said.
"I probably need to be a bit more consistent so hopefully I can go on with it."
McMillan was 15 when he made his first grade debut for the Bulldogs and hopes they can taste a bit more success now than back then.
"I was only young when I first started out and was struggling a bit but I think I'm ready to go on with it now," he said.
"We weren't going real well back in the day but we are starting to come good.
"We've got a pretty good side together so there is no reason why we can't get a few more wins."
After coming into the side for their second Twenty20 clash of the weekend, McMillan retains his place to take on Lake Albert and Geoff Lawson Oval.
However the hero from their win over South Wagga, Tim Cameron, will miss the clash due to work commitments.
Cameron's tight bowling at the death proved to be the difference however Perry is pleased Charlie Cull is back available for selection.
"It would have been good to have him and Cully together but it isn't how it worked out," he said.
"You lose a bit of experience there but Charlie coming back in adds a bit of class as well and strengthens our batting up."
Lake Albert got the better of Wagga RSL when the two sides met in the last round before the Christmas break.
Perry is looking to hit back from the disappointing showing to move above them on the ladder.
"They've seemed to surprise a few people in the Twenty20s and obviously got the better of us just before Christmas," he said.
"That was extremely disappointing so it will be a good opportunity for us, and for them, to put for finals in the T20s."
